I have been a dedicated follower of NZs efforts in the Americas Cup since the KZ7 days.

My heart shines knowing that every NZ effort in this "elite mans" sport has been honest and very low budget, and we have KICKED THIER ASS time and time again to date.

Lets do it again.

This has been the most enthralling Americas Cup regatta. At least according to me, and Im sure some could beg to differ.....

I missed last nights race but just saw the highlights. WICKED MAN!

i can't get excited about a boat that is designed to go at its best between 6.7 and 11.3 knots , and to break in half around 17.5 knots , HOWEVER
the awesome kiwi desperado shoestring thinktank , and inferior copies from foreign parts ,have contributed to the refinement of a couple of really seaworthy designs that i know of .....the whitbread/volvo class , and the so-called "sportsboat" also pretty much a kiwi initiative , i believe (google Thompson 7 , or Elliot 7 ) which are affordable to your average wild-eyed fanatic at around 80 grand , and do just what the cup boats do , just a bit safer and longer than their big expensive cousins , and of course it's extra good to see the kiwi team beat the other kiwi team ,everybody should be happy. i do wonder if that swiss billionaire is influential in the cartel that owns the US airforce , that thinks it owns the weather? Watch out for winds of 17.75 knots

I dont know about shoestring, New Zealand taxpayers gave 33.75 million dollars alone. I hope we win though cos those other guys are traitorous New Zealanders working against New Zealanders.....TO THE SWORD I SAY!!

quite right Deano , when i hear the NZ elite yachting fraternity crying poor , i think :
winged keel
psychological warfare
men at work's "down under" every day at full volume
psychological warfare
etc
but from the financial perspective , if NZ wins again , that money will look like a good bet? compared with the money that comes back into NZ for the next challenge? my objection is that the boats are unseaworthy. the sea is unforgiving , even more than you or me. i think its really bad role modeling .

From a purely financial perspective I dont see too much problem with us investing that sort of coin if we get several times that much back by winning and hosting the next one. Dean Barker and the boys have proven they have the goods, therefore it was a good bet even if we lose. Having a reasonably strong economy means you can afford the odd gamble and I commend them for doing so (doesnt mean I will vote for them though, wheres my tax cut Helen?).

That was an outstanding regatta.

Tonights race (The Last) was incredible. We lost but it was an incredible race.

Brad Butterworth proved himself unsurpassed in his field and the NZ Team proved themselves the best in the world yet again (If you dont count the tight5 NZrs on the opposition boat.

By that I mean without NZ sailors the rest of the world would be screwed.

Twas not to be, sad but not all bad...

Through my work I know of a boat building company in New Plymouth which has 70 full time staff working non-stop trying to keep up with orders. Boats built by New Zealander's are deemed among the best in the world thanks to our image on the world stage.

My brother is one of NZs elite Boatbuilders.
He was in Team NZ in 2000 when we successfully defended the cup in Auckland.

He had nothing to do with the shambles that followed that or the latest challenge but those days were exciting times.
Last nights race was a cracker.
