Spending a good part of the day outside today, we observed the unusual occurence (for Auckland that is) of a plane leaving a very long but relatively short lived contrail. The aircraft passed over head, heading North and although a small portion of its trail in the southern direction lingered for some time, the trail was reasonably quick to dissipate.
info4 was able to identify the flight in Flight Explorer as an Air Pacific 737-700 enroute to Fiji from Christchurch, it's flight altitude at FL400 (40,000 feet) and ascending (by the time info4 was able to spot it it had travelled considerably further North, so it probably wasn't 40,000 ft when it flew over us).
Earlier in the day, we observed a persisting contrail possibly on the Japan, Vanuatu or Korea heading according to our Flight Vector map, that spread and hung around for possibly as much as an hour, although we didn't see that one being formed, so it's hard to be sure. May post some photos if we have time...

Clear blue sky over Wellington today.
I spent the entire afternoon outside and saw no trails at all.
There was some cirrus that looked like dispersed trails drifting over Cook Strait from the top of the South Island and that was it.
Visibility from the South Coast looking towards the South Island was low and there was a lot of haze in the air over there.
