Hey all,
I just want to start a thread about "Peak Oil" to get an idea of people thoughts/ideas on the subject.
Personally, I believe it is one of the most serious, imediate threats to humanity. I believe it's too late to stop it, but it's not too late to learn how to survive it.
However it will take some special ppl with special skills to do so.
Of course that's just my feelings on the subject, what are yours?
Do you know about it?
How serious do you think it is?
Do you feel you need to prepare?
If you did prepare, how would you do it?
What are the warning signs for you?
What would be the last warning sign for you that prompts you to initiate your plan? (if you had one)

'Peak Oil’ as a concept is warmly embraced by a number of vested interests - including both the Oil industry and various environmental organisations, for different reasons, of course. That alone would tend to make me rather cautious about believing in it...

Its abit of a "y2k" scam.
I have personal knowledge about the oil industry, there will be no shortages of oil in our life times or even in the next 3-4 generations if ever. There is so much oil currently known about and yet to be discovered if it were known the oil prices would crash!
We don't even need oil, there are many products already which are free or very low cost which can be used instead of oil. The thing is you've got a bunch of greedy old wo/men trying to squeeze every last buck out of the world before they get totally faised out by the next energy brake through. And at the same time there trying not to push the price of oil up to much so it doesn't become economical to buy out of using oil to fuel our cars etc.
Do the simply thing, get rid of your v8's etc and sit back and laugh at there antic's

If Oil is re'newable or not really dosen't matter, does it? It's the effect of the notion that could very well be the real problem too.
Higher prices for everything
Food shortages
Energy shortages
Panic/hysteria
Sticker Controls
Quik fix alternatives eg: coal, nuclear power
War/Conflict
'Peak Oil' has probably ceased to be an issue now, all of the above (with the exception of the use of coal) can be achieved with the Anthropogenic Global Warming scare. The average person is going to find their quality of life greatly diminished in the future if this concept continues to gain traction...

I believe we passed the peak of oil production on the planet about 1 year ago, its easy to dismiss peak oil as an idea contrived by the seven sisters to prop up oil prices, but when the evidence is examined the concept of peak oil appears to be plausible. Here's some thoughts:
Political movements over the past 50 years have been focused on securing oil reserves especially for the west usually at the expense of the east and Africa.
There's plenty of oil feilds in the US that have been discovered, peaked and are now in decay or dead, they all follow the bell curve and the global oil reserves can be charted in the same manner which shows the global oil reserves to be peaking about now.
Major oil discoveries have been fewer and fewer.
Major oil feilds in easy to get at places, ie on land or shallow water are already in production or have expired.
Global oil production figures in the last year have been static at about 84 barrels a day, after continuous growth for the past century of 2 - 3 % per year.
Useful oil for petrol, diesel, plastics and chemicals are lighter and float on top of the oil table, as the feild depletes, the oil becomes heavier and only good for heavy fuels and bitumen.
Oil prices are high because supply is failing to match demand, only efficency in technology is extending the relatively moderate prices for the time being.
Daily oil consumption is only just matching demand, when ever the supply is threatened even tacidly, the price goes up, when production is actually affected such as around the time of Katrina, the price skyrockets and some areas run out.
911 was staged to give the US a popular reason to invade Iraq in order to secure the last major oil reserves, they have been there ever since to try and protect the oil production infrastructure and keep the spice flowing.
When peak oil is acknowledged there will be no coming back, the world economy will bomb for decades, billions will starve to death, the global economy will deflate. Eventually things will balance out at a sustainable level of population and consumption, suppressed forms of energy currently being held by the oil giants will be released and the world will go on but with a much smaller population, these will be the descendants of the elite or illuminati.
The interesting thing for your country is the potential oil reserves in the great southern basin, this if it meets expectation could be similar to Iraqs known reservse which will make NZ a possible meber of OPEC, Rob Muldoon knew about this oil in the 70's but wouldn't agree to the 2 - 3% share offers by the oil giants, they capped the test wells and the whole thing got covered up. Now the government has just closed exploration tenders in April and the winner will be announced in August. So while the world runs out we will be tapping sweet crude for decades and selling it for good prices, good on ya Rob.

The USA is sitting on billions of barrels of oil in alaska and keeping it quiet, plus there are vast reserves in other areas in the usa, watch this video on youtube to discover the facts about oil fields:
peak oil is a scam because as it says in the video the oil barons back in the 70s had planned to increase the price of oil to $5 a gallon by 2005 and they did it... and its been a careful plan of injecting the right propaganda at the right time in baby steps up until now to acheive their goal of hiking up the prices (while suppressing alterantives to oil and gasoline) as part of their overall plan to make people more and more dependant on the sytem to support us and less self suffiecient... think about it, in the last 100 years weve seen a huge drive in technology, but what is the result? more gadgets, more efficent workers who can do more in less time.. but.. less and less of us have gardens or the skills to fend for ourselves outside of the system.. how many people do u know now who have a vege garden in the back yard? most just dont bother any more, we have become conditioned through tv and govt media propaganda to become more and more dependant and slave like, all the time thinking we are free, when the global economy bursts as it is engineered to do (nothing in this world happens by chance) and other fear scams come into play like bird-flu, what we we all do? fall into line for the one world government as it will be sold to us as the only way to economic stability... we need to learn to fend for ourselves again and build community spirit and come together and barter and look after each other once again, its the only positive way out of the mess and chaos thats been designed for us to fall into...
