Its long overdue, next year we need to organise ourselves and try to get some good evenings of group skywatching in.

I have a portable charcoal BBQ, I suggest we here in Wellington get together at least one evening a month for a picnic dinner and group skywatch.

I would like to suggest we set a date or 2 (backup in case the weather is wrong) for January, set a meeting point, organise who has transport etc etc and get out there.

Any takers???

It needs to be a liitle out of the way of the city lights. the sky over Marlborough/Cook Strait would be the area to watch, so somwhere between Wellington and Makara, or Makara Beach itself would be a nice place to sit for a few hours.
Our last trip was up Quartz Hill, and before that we went up Tinakori Hill and Wrights hill. Wrights Hill was ok.

Ive been fortunate enough to have several sightings over the last 10 years, but none on any recent organised outing.

I did see a large triangular shaped craft one night over Welly about 3 1/2 years ago from Island Bay.

That's interesting to me since military and black aircraft is one of my pet subjects.

Would you mind expanding on that?

Sure, I take it you mean the black triangle specifically.

I was living in Island Bay up on the hill between there and Lyall Bay on the West side of the hill looking over the valley towards the radar dome, wind turbine etc..It was about June/July 2004 roughly 10 or 11pm. I was out skywatching in my backyard which I do most nights and it was a very clear night.
Looking southwards over Cook Strait I spotted what appeared to be a satellite tracking more or less due North, as I watched it I suddenly noticed 2 other points of light either side of it and behind it, they at first appeared to be 3 satellites tracking North forming a triangle shape.
It dawned on me within a few seconds that they werent satellites but points of light on the 3 corners of a large black triangle, it changed course and tracked out of my sight in a North East direction.

Total duration of the sighting was no more than 3 minutes or less. It flew directly overhead of my position and appeared very graceful and steady as it moved.

This was one of 6 signifigant sightings Ive had. It was one of the least dramatic of those. Ive been bugging a friend of mine to video my accounts of these sightings.

Some of the other sightings would take a great deal of typing to do the stories justice, one in particular was a prolonged event that lasted 3 or 4 hours North of Auckland at a place called Stillwater in late 1999. There were 3 other witnesses to that event. My 2 younger brothers and a friend were there for that one.

I pretty much need someone who knows what they are doing to interveiw me about them and write it all out.

It has been my intention for nearly a year to spill the beans about what Ive seen, Im not particulary worried about ridicule because thats pretty much unavoidable with these things.

I really would like the other guys to give their accounts as well and perhaps get some video/photos of the places these events happened.
