I like listening to Leighton Smith and reading his website in a way best described as "know thy enemy". He seems to be on some kind of mission to perpetrate neoconservative ideals in NZ, including lame attempts at debunking of global warming and 911 conspiracies. His recent postings include articles which he describes on air as debunking 911, yet when read the articles basically say don't believe the 911 conspiracy because it’s bad and the people that question the official 911 story are bad so don’t believe them. He often won't address any 911 or global warming issue other than to cut off callers before they get their point across then call them loony or barmy. He is occasionally very derogatory toward NZ and NZers in general often accusing us of being "useless" and it’s a sad reflection on our nature that we allow this bully to remain on air. He recently questioned why summer ice melts in the artic didn't result in higher global sea levels, when I called to point out that summer melts in the artic are met equally by a winter freeze in the Antarctic I was again cut off inside the seven second delay, a simple truth denied. His pronunciation of Maori words, names and places is made without any respect whatsoever for our native language and offers an insult to all Kiwis. He is good for something though, his News talk ZB radio show and his website www.leightonsmith.co.nz offer an open book to the neocon mind and provides a good source of motivation for any sort of environmental or left leaning political activism. He has a sharp mind and anyone who takes him on can expect a robust dialogue just be very careful to choose your words and timing carefully and you’ll fluster him, in other words good fun.

There are two ways you can look at a guy like Mr Smith;
1) He is a Neocon, promoting one sided views as most media do in this country anyway (most people will promote there own view on to others it makes them feel clever).
2) He is a closed minded fool with simplistic solutions that will never solve a thing.
Something also to bare in mind is Talkback shows are a product (which is sold)! not a medium for free speach. The product is constructed a certain way and thats the way it must stay, unless they have to change due to finacial reasons.
If you want to get your views across don't listen to him! We hold the strings to there wallets
