Avondale College in Auckland also has their own system in place:

Some worthwhile points from the article:

Stuff wrote:
Heretaunga College principal Bruce Hart said many schools already provided a similar service to parents. His school provided details of homework assignments so parents could check up on what their children should be doing.

Mr Hart said the Avondale system had its merits, but young people should be given a chance to change their behaviour before parents were notified.

I agree. Slowly, children are receiving less and less opportunity for the kinds of independent experiences necessary for the learning of life and social skills due to micro-management by parents.

Wellington College principal Roger Moses said "It's got tremendous potential".

I bet...

Stuff wrote:
Children's Commissioner Cindy Kiro said the Avondale system could be helpful, but if tracking truancy was its main purpose, it would be of limited use because parent behaviour played a big part in the truancy problem.

Dr Kiro said it was possible that the parents most likely to log on to the Avondale College site were those who were already well-informed about, and involved in, their children's education.

"The parents you would want engaged with the children are probably less likely to log on, so I think we have to keep working at other sorts of initiatives that target those (parents)."

Why implement something of limited value as a truancy tracking tool? Perhaps there are other benefits...

hi melody,
my concern is that once freedom-loving countries, whether intentional or not, are implementing a "fear" based culture based on mis-trust, apprehension, and "we know what's good for you" elitism. but, wait, they have the panacea! it's called "technology"... no longer do you have to trust your thoughts, spirit, intuition. you can just leave that at home now, next to your broadband modem.

Once again this demonstrates to me that this technology will be used more and more. We will have a new generation who will grow up with this kind of stuff happening all around them and it will become normal.

If the parents are well informed then why this technology :?:
