what a horrible program. :( i had never watched this "eating media lunch" before. the so-called "investigative journalist" looked like the "$10 text dude" from the telecom adds. so, i'm assuming, they are targetting this program to a more youth oriented market.. sort of an "edgy" close-up or john campbell? i think i even heard this x-generation dude say "f@ck". choice. like wicked, bro.
i found the presentation dim-witted and deplorable. they lumped some of the biggest controversies in the history of the world into one big "conspiracy theory" bucket. they subsequently led us to believe everything in "the bucket" has no evidence and has been concocted by those "dissatisfied with the way things are.. you know, those either ultra left wing or ultra right wing"... gotta admire those media psychologists! :?
they did however, have one interesting interview with a university of otago professor. he had some relevant discussion on the use of conspiracy theories by the elite to spread disinformation.
eml then capped the program off with a piece on "the skeptics" society's attack on holmes. the message appeared to be: "anyone who questions media authority is on the lunatic fringe.. don't listen to them"
good job tvnz! your paymasters must be proud of such sound bite entertainment! i'll never question the media puppet masters again! honest!

Well said Hiero :)
I don't normally watch the show, but because it had been mentioned here and I knew there would be discussion on it, I sat through this trash last night. It was pretty much as I expected it to be - in fact, I could have just about written a synopsis for what they would cover and how they would do it, before the show aired :?
I have no respect for Jeremy Wells. He probably thinks he's pretty radical, but last night's effort put him firmly in the company of mainstream media debunkers, in my opinion.
Trundle out the usual suspects, UFO believers, Elvis witnesses etc etc - ho hum. Easy meat.
The chemtrail issue was hardly mentioned. They referred to it as a hot topic in the conspiracy world, talked about poisoning the skies, blah blah. Described the conspiracy as a collusion between the US government, Airlines and Insurance Companies :?: :!: First I've heard of insurance companies... Where the hell did that come from??
Their concentration on Uncensored Magazine and in particular, editor Jonathon Eisen, even raking up old footage from the Liam Williams Holloway case, was interesting. Obviously they have it in for Eisen. I don't think he did himself or his magazine any favours in the way that he conducted himself during the interview. Sure, Wells was provocative and hostile, but Eisen had a window in which to put forward something convincing and he let himself look like a rabid conspiracy nut/believer.
Now, I understand that EML may have cut the interview together to suit their own agenda - it's been known to happen, so apologies to Eisen if they edited the interview unfairly. However, when quizzed about 911, he had his chance to list the credible anomalies of the story. Instead he let Wells climb all over him, complaining that Wells obviously hadn't read the magazine. He had a TV audience and a chance to discuss details. Wells's simplistic justification for the official story: some planes were flown into some buildings. By not challenging it with intelligent comment, Eisen almost looked as though he was refuting the fact that it happened at all.
I think that Uncensored were up against it from the very beginning. Porn king Steve Crow (I know... the porn king expression is a little tired), and well known, but, it would seem, not that well respected in certain quarters, conspiracy nut Eisen were never going to present a formidable face for the truth and for credible and critical scrutiny of issues in this countty. And, in my opinion, while they may have raised some awareness around the place, they have brought more harm to serious issues worthy of more investigation, by placing their magazine firmly in the conspiracy theory box (whether they intended to or not) and by simply rehashing a lot of US based material from the internet. Eisen should never have accepted the invitation to do EML.

And, by the way, Vicki Hyde from the Skeptics Society revealed the society's soft underbelly last night. It would appear even the Skeptics have groups they are not willing to tangle with. When Wells asked for her opinions on Taniwha (amongst other contentious conspiracy related catch phrases), I thought her answer was very 'unskeptic-like' - complicit even. She said something like she thought people thought there was good reason to have Taniwhas protecting our rivers and waterways.
Come on Vicki, where is that skeptical, critical thinking, hard edge? Sounds a little like a no-go area to me.
I notice on their web site they list her not as chairwoman, chairman or chairperson, but as 'chair-entity' (groan). How very PC...

hi melody,
good points. :-)
they got that insurance/us govt/airlines theory from will thomas.. a video he did back in 2000. as we all know, much new evidence has been gathered in the past 5 years on chemtrails.

The show eating media lunch...IS a take the piss wierd, quirky journalistic program intended for comic effect...although in this cas he could have used the power of the media to broaden the public knowledge on such topics...sounds like newsboy of eating media lunch failed to do so
