Babies spied shedding in-vitro tears

...New research shows unborn babies as young as 28 weeks' gestation appear to cry in the womb.

Researchers used an ultrasound scan to record the response of a foetus when a 90-decibel noise was played through a small loudspeaker against the abdomen of a pregnant woman.

A lawnmower or heavy traffic rate at around 90 decibels, and chainsaws, jack hammers, and nightclub noise have a decibel rating of 100.

The result was a "stunning video clip" showing all the hallmarks of a baby crying, said Auckland University professor of child health research Ed Mitchell, who helped analyse and publish the paper.
