hi folks,
very interesting thread on the rfid technologies.
azimuth, very informative summary.

we are living in technology creep. global corporations keep trying to satisfy the "unsatisfiable" human nature. gadgets and gizmos to make life "easier", "more efficient", "more productive".. "sexier".. well, my cellphone hasn't done any of these things. in fact, when working 60 hr weeks in california, the most joyful time i had was when my son, aged 18 months at the time, threw my beeping, vibrating, flashing, $1,000 cellphone in the toilet! :P yes, and it kept ringing and vibrating, even at the bottom of the loo!

needless to say, i was at a stressful breaking point, and would have normally put my fist through the wall, but.. something snapped.. and i began laughing hysterically :lol: ! i just couldn't stop. i thought i was going absolutely bonkers. i decided there and then that a life in a technological chain gang matrix was not for me.

which leads me to my "technology creep" theory. i'm sure someone has formalized this before, but in my theory, we slowly accept more and more technology at the expense of our true independent freedom. if we are on the fastrack at work, you are seen as a "luddite" if you don't have at least a cellphone, pager, laptop, pda, or in some cases, the lot. society invites us to lose these freedoms, because it is told to us that "you will not be successful without them".. once again, massaging our broken human nature of chronic "dissatisfaction".

in california, rfid tollways have been used for a decade now. you do have option of "paying cash" but on most routes, the firms that own the tollways, do not provide adequate staffing levels, hence, the route becomes longer, and effectively non-economic. so, you are forced to use the transponders. tv shows us how "government agencies" can use this information to solve "real homicides".. (csi, svu, etc.). by tracking us, we are in the "matrix". it's like the war on terror. we are all terrorists, until proven innocent.
