Here's an excellent Barbara Sumner Burtsyn article about the political manipulation of popular entertainment through neo-con influenced storylines and direct Homeland Security and military involvement in Hollywood scripting.
I haven't seen the shows she mentions, but I certainly have seen the creeping advance of the 'war on terror'/patriot agenda into entertainment culture in recent times. An important read...
Another very good Barbara Sumner Burtsyn article. I was particulary interested in the following except from the article:-
Quote:
He backgrounds his investigation with reports from 1960’s where the CIA was involved in experiments that showed that the moving images of television produce a shift from left-brain to right-brain neural activity, inducing a sort of chemical trance that suppresses judgment and heightens suggestibility. The researchers learned that once viewers ‘suspended their disbelief,” they became vulnerable to the values and messages embedded in the drama.
I've heard mention of subliminal messages in movies and such like but this is a very good explanation of the passive nature of viewing television.
I was taken aback last week to see a news item about a victim in Hurricane Katrina. The emotive response it was designed to evoke was blatent....Oh, the poor boy and how good the government rescue teams were...no expense spared
A negro boy had been seriously ill in hospital prior to the hurricane but had been miraculously saved by rescue teams, taken to a hospital outside the disaster area, and an organ or some such body part was flown from France to cure him of his fatel illness. I can't begin to imagine the cost of this... Somewhat in contrast and contradiction to other stories being told (not on mainstream news).
