| I was interested to watch Country Calendar on TV One this evening when I saw that it was about sheep mustering in Marlborough. Sure enough, there were chemtrails during the filming. There was a shot of a beautiful clear blue autumn sky and two long, parallel chemtrails over the mountains. |

| :P Yeah. There are more and more NZ programmes where you can spot chemtrails in the background skies... Marlborough is of course, a prime candidate. |

i was watching a program on tramping and canoeing through southwest tasmania.. this place is remote! looks so beautiful.. very reminiscent of southwest south island.
there was a shot of the sea kayakers paddling along an estuary and lo and behold, two parallel line chemtrails above them! if we have anomalous flight paths, that takes the cake! food for thought: what are planes doing at high altitude over southwestern tasmania?
also, an article in "avenues" christchurch magazine.. of an old man at the beach (presume new brighton), and chemtrails out there (no surprise there).
last week, a csi las vegas episode filmed in 2001.. a shot from north las vegas home (near the stratosphere casino.. love the symbolism :) and i counted four thick paralell chemtrails over the casino.. the shot only lasted a few seconds, but it was patently obvious those were some hectic cts. |

I reckon I saw chemtrails in an episode of the Simpsons a while back. I wasn't watching it but coming in and out of the room doing other things. In one scene, the TV newsreader Kent Brockman comes on and announces "And in environmental news, scientists have discovered that Springfield's air is now only dangerous to children and the elderly." Homer punches the air and says 'woohoo!'.
Then in a later scene, which only appears for a second, you see a shot of the Simpsons' house and the clouds above the house are all aligned in a grid of about 5 parallel lines. Quite unusual because the clouds in the Simpsons are usually very distinctive - unless they are trying to make a point... Simpsons being the social commentary that it is, and the fact that drawing the clouds in this configuration had to be deliberate, I thought it was very interesting... |

| You got to wonder about chemtrails in cartoons etc. as a way to normalise it in the minds of people. Our son was playing a game online where the scene showed pine trees and clouds overhead that looked like chemtrails. I was going to post it in the forum out of interest but couldn't screen dump or copy it successfully. |

melody,
the simpsons. brilliant find. the simpsons are the ultimate definition of mcluhan's vision of media power. i similarly agree that the media "portends" reality.
marshall mcluhan was a genius.
"the medium is the message" and better: "the news automatically becomes the real world for the tv user and is not a substitute for reality, but is itself an immediate reality." 1978

Another of his that is just so true these days:
"Only puny secrets need protection. Big discoveries are protected by public incredulity."
And this is good:
"Mud sometimes gives the illusion of depth."
And this, which is particularly interesting to me:
"All advertising advertises advertising."
I trained as a Graphic Artist and turned away from a career at Young and Rubicam. I've never regretted it. I find the study of media culture and advertising intensely interesting, but I think I would find it very difficult being a part of that world, particularly now. There was a study awhile back that found it didn't really matter what an ad said or whether it was good or if its message was clear, it is the fact that the advertiser advertises (and can afford to advertise) that sticks in the mind of the consumer. |

Yep, all the time. :P And you do see them constantly. A lot British of shows and docos - you can often see some very dramatic displays in these: Billy Connolly's World Tour, some of the Brit archaeological documentaries on the History Channel. I've seen them in magazines, particularly Wine mags in the skies above vineyards, often in Marlborough and Nelson, but not exclusively. I've seen them in Cuisine magazine - one very dramatic shot over a resort in Sydney. A NZ documentary on the Kaikoura Whale watch, huge dramatic trails behind the presenter in a couple of segments...
I'm sure that if anyone who still has stuff on video from around 10 years or so ago had a wander through their older material, they wouldn't spot one. I would be interested to hear of the earliest example anyone has of a chemtrail or persistent contrail at least, on a mainstream film or television programme. (Someone told us there are trails in Mad Max, but I haven't watched any of the movies since I heard of that.)
P.S Last year, we even produced a quarter page ad for a client, published in Cuisine Magazine, using one of our Marlborough chemtrail shots, with dramatic chemtrails appearing in the sky in the upper half of the comp! :P |
