I was talking to a builder today and he mentioned that soon you won't be able to build wood burning fireplaces into new homes, and a guess it would also cover renovations. It's all to do with the Kyoto Protocal and global warming :o :shock:
This is about to become council regulation all over Auckland. Apparently it is already the case in Christchurch but pollution he says is no better because there are more cars :!:
I love wood burning fires - no modern day invention can replace the cosy warmth and look of a real fire. Feels like the loss of one of life's simple pleasures. :(

never fear , the guardians of rightful use of the worlds resources are on the ball , and scientists are being paid our tax money to safeguard the true , the right and the fair
today on Australian National Radio , once a hotbed of leftist sentiment (until their funding was righteously scarified by a right-thinking rightist regime) , i heard that the Global Warming God has been successfully mollified again (WHEW!!!) by the employment of horticultural high priests , to ritually declare a connection between the observance of the earlier ripening of grapes ( drought-stressed , but this was not mentioned) , with the high and holy theory of Climate Change
these words were intoned , in the esoterically required sequence , according to the solemn dictum of the Madison Avenue / CIA mind-correcting technology
the only remaining question , did these scientists identify this means to maintaining their income all by themselves , or were they pointed and pushed?
