|
|
Has anyone noticed how inaccurate the weather forecasts for Auckland have been in the last few weeks?
I've been watching them a bit more closely as we've had many forecasts for rainy days and stormy weather but it just doesn't seem to eventuate, or it gets delayed to the next day..and then the next.
I remarked to an owner of a local garden centre about it and she said how annoying it was that the dark stormy clouds passed over without any rain coming down. Doesn't seem right somehow. Reminds me of what the weatherman on the web site http://www.weatherwars.info/index.html says about cloud modification which induces, at the extreme end, droughts. What a resource that site is becoming. He made this interesting statement about hole punch clouds under his section titled Holes:
"I enjoyed reading the accounts of how the meteorological community struggled to explain how this cloud formed from their limited knowledge of the electrical processes at work in our atmosphere. The accepted explanation was that there was a condensation nuclei present that initiated the event. Still no answer as to why the circular shape and source of the nuclei to trigger its formation. You now know that it was a flood of negative ions delivered by HAARP or similar technologies to rain out the cloud cover into this weeping cirrus cloud."
Plus there's a few photos there that'll knock your socks off.

Yes Carus,
I have been noticing and commenting on this for the last couple of weeks. Especially over the last few days, we are supposed to have had heavy rain and even thunderstorms! Yet every day, it's more blue skies... Very bizarre...
I'm not complaining about the blue skies - they are great - but I don't think I remember a time when it has seemed so much out of step with the forecast for such a long period. And to such extremes. Thunderstorms, heavy rain, gails and hail are a far cry from blue skies and warm temperatures. I can understand a slight deviation, but this just seems completely strange. :-s
And the other weird thing is that the forecasters don't seem to acknowledge it. Every night they're saying something like "more bad weather on the way I'm afraid..." As though we had just taken a lashing and were in for more.
I know they don't like getting it wrong, nor do they really like to have people comment on it, so maybe it's not such a surprise that they are not saying "well, thunderstorms were forecast for Auckland, but it was 24 degrees and sunny all day..."
But like you, I do think it's odd... |

Okay - Friday 1st of April,
Its beautiful and sunny outside at the moment - warm, a few white fluffy clouds, but mainly blue skies...
Here's the weather forecast for today from the New Zealand Herald website:
Thunder
And further down the page:
From Northland to Taranaki and Taihape, also for Bay of Plenty and Taupo: Fine spells and scattered showers, with isolated thunderstorms from afternoon.
And from the MetService:
Few showers, some thundery. Northerlies.
And from the Weather Underground site (an international weather forecasting site - www.wunderground.com):
Thunderstorms
Seems fairly conclusive - and typical of the forecasts for the past few days. No sign of even rain yet. We'll see how it goes throughout the day... |

No sign of those approaching thunderstorms.
In fact, the sky is much clearer than it was during my earlier posting. Only a couple of very small fluffly white clouds left, the sky is still a gorgeous clear blue and the sun is shining, temperature is warm with a slight breeze. |

| I'd personally start to worry when the weather people start getting it right. I'm sure its a pre-apocalypse sign if they do.... :D |

Still no thunder and lightning, although we are starting to get some decent looking dark clouds looming now. No rain yet. |

I heard a short weather report on the radio whilst driving this afternoon..
'Don't be surprised if there's rain and some thundering showers tonight'
Certainly didn't eventuate today. Do you think they're getting desperate? |

It was forcast for thunderstorms/rain up here in Whangarei today also. They never arrived although we did have a couple of brief heavy downpours yesterday which were forcast.
Keep Looking Up

Hi Melody,
same up here, a very beautiful clear evening. The only sign of liquid is in the bottle or 3 of Merlot we are sharing with friends at present.
Keep Looking Up

I watched the weather news on TV late last night and it said morning showers clearing with cloud in the afternoon.
Well we've woken to a beautiful cloudless, sunny day. We're going to go for a bush walk :) |

Yes, those forecasts are a joke. The threatening black clouds come over in the late afternoon - we're looking for rain for our tank - then they mysteriously disappear. Apparently Hilary Barry who does the weather forecasting on TV3 was heard on radio the other morning (where she also does the weather) saying that she doesn't know why she bothers - she was wrong last night and will also be wrong again!!
Who's kidding us?

Heheh one of my favorites.
Imagine if you will, replacing the word 'weather' with 'mood' .
Tomorrows Mood forecast :
There's a low depression of mood moving into the south west of the South Island in the morning, with the mood clearing slightly by 5pm in the evening. In contrast to the bad mood in the west, the east of the Alps will be experiencing clear and sunny mood patterns, although as the evening progresses the mood will start to change as a cold snap works its way up from the south. By the evening the mood will have deteriorated, bringing rain and possibly sleet to low lying areas. Remember to take a brolly with you to work in the morning, as the mood will have really worsened by 9am...........
In the longe range mood forecast, most of the North and east west of the south should see the mood change for the better as the weekend draws closer, with a large High covering most of the south of the North Island by Saturday. Sundays mood for most of the country starts off with a big high, but as the day draws on, a gloomy depression will sweep over most of the country, bringing wide spread rain and there is a gale force wind warning for the Cook Strait area. The mood is not looking good for Monday I'm afraid, as most of the country should be under a very heavy depression , Judy...... |

That would put Judy on the spot. - hard to find something perky and positive to say about that! |
