Today whilst in Browns Bay I happened to glance up and catch a glimpse of a plane creating some strange looking contails, at first there was a little burst from what seemed like only one side of the plane, then it happened again but lasted for a couple of seconds and was from both sides of the plane
the plane was a large grey boeing type aircraft, it was unmarked, i am positive it came from the old airfield near by which used to be used as a commercial airport way back in the day...
it was right over the top of rangitoto college aswell as a Mcdonalds and KFC.. which seems irrelevant, but this is the 3rd time ive seen strange stuff happening in the sky at mcdonalds..
You were probably looking at the RNZAF's Boeing 757.
This is a member of the Boeing family of twin engine comercial jets. The main obvious difference to the other modern Boeing twin engine commercial jet (767 )is that it has a narrower fuselage. It is painted in low visibility grey due to the military nature of its work enviroment.
I am ex airforce (left years ago now) and it was probably doing "circuits and bumps" (take-off and landing practice) from Whenaupai airbase (still an active RNZAF base)
The "plane creating some strange looking contails" was probably vapour trails that can often be seen on low flying aircraft particularly when they are turning (but not always)
