Cops target climate-sceptic bloggers in three countries

Hardware seized in UK, feds request evidence in America

Police have targeted at least four climate bloggers in three countries, with constabulary taking computers and networking equipment from a science blogger in the UK.

Roger Tattersall, aka "Tallbloke", a Digital Content Manager at the University of Leeds, posted that six police officers identifying themselves as being from Norfolk Police and the Metropolitan force entered his home at midnight and took away two laptops and a router.

Norfolk Constabulary told us in a written statement that "Norfolk Constabulary executed a search warrant yesterday (Wednesday 14 December) in West Yorkshire and seized computers. No one was arrested. This is one line of enquiry in a Norfolk Constabulary investigation which started in 2009."

That's a reference to the "Climategate" investigation by Norfolk police into the release of emails, raw data and computer code from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, which two years on has yet to yield any results. A second batch of emails from the CRU including a large encrypted container was distributed last month. Amongst the recipients were Tattersall and Jeff Id of the Air Vent.

Norfolk Police told Tattersall they will clone the seized drives and return them.

Last week WordPress hosting site Automattic, based in San Francisco, notified several climate skeptics including Tattersall, Id and Canadians Steve McIntyre (Climate Audit) and Donna Laframboise (No Consensus) that the US Department of Justice Criminal Division had requested evidence for the period in November when the second batch of emails were uploaded.

We asked the Met for a statement but they referred us to Norfolk.

This article appears second in line when I google my name. I wonder if google gives preference to this site? (I googled my name because I've been applying for jobs, and want to know what prospective employers see, if they take this rather obvious step)

Yes, but interesting that at exactly 6pm NZT yesterday, my phone ( iPhone) and my wife's phone (android) were attacked. Mine seems ok, but certain settings changed; my wife's phone died permanently. There are some very clever people who run websites, who can track the creeps who lurk around the back of sites like nutbar. This surveillance thing is a double-edged sword.

The problem is not with the tracking technology as such
I don't really mind being tracked, personally
The problem is with the massive standing armies, and the mossads and tavistocks and KGBs and the rest. Apart from being self-perpetuating pests, they get paid a lot and produce nothing. When they suck as much as they suck now, we simply can't afford them.

Yep. The age-old question - why do we all continue to just put up with this obvious total BS?

There is no denying that the justice systems around the western world are corrupt, and the legal predators and parasites that hang around it like a bad smell are mostly into making work for themselves
However, I've met some good and honest lawyers, and I've seen firsthand, some really good magistrates, beautifully working a balance with values including Justice, Mercy, Community-cohesion and others.
A quick look at the successes of the past, perhaps most of all the systems underpinned by the Magna Carta and the American Constitution, is enough to inspire hope that there is a future in reforming what we still have. Also, notwithstanding that we get a poisoned view of Islamic Law in our MSM, and that it is arguably in need of modernization, it has a history including a lot of success, too.
You used to expect to get " culture shock" when you travelled to another country.
These days, you are more likely to get " lack of culture shock".
As a repository of culture, the justice systems are the last man standing.
We can't afford to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Nowhere else can be seen the seeds of a future harmony.
