I have been watching more than usual over the last 3 days ... no PTs until 4:40pm yesterday (9 August). Plenty of cirrus forms - in theory, contrails eminent ... not the case ... no trails observed.
I was on the phone when the westbound plane + trail went over the valley, and unable to get a 'sooner' shot and/or video. Very unusual to see aircraft on this path - usually on the other side of the of valley. The PTs left by these craft are segmented and more 'spectacular'.

Thanks for posting ruapaka. The third shot is interesting - would you say the "apparent" "shadowing" effect is on cloud above or below the trail? It appears from the photo that the shadow is on cloud above the trail which would probably make sense I guess as the sun would be low in the sky at that time. I know photos can sometimes be deceptive though (especially ones with close-up(ish) snaps of "commercial" aircraft in them from dubious sources! :wink: ). In fact in that photo the "shadow" almost "appears" to be a corresponding "gap" in the cloud. Interesting nonetheless. Cheers.
