Attended the Rollercoaster event on Sat 27 March 2010 over at Albany on Auckland's North Shore. About 5.45pm while the first band was playing after the day's activities I looked up and saw this big long continuous trail in the process of being laid that extended from right over the North Shore to over central Auckland and beyond. All the younguns in front of the stage area are totally oblivious to what's above their heads
Looking westwards there was also some activity of the usual "short trail" kind and we noted at least 2 distinct trails that had just been laid while driving home. Looking from the Rollercoaster event westward though just before we headed off we saw this distinct rainbow colouration in the "clouds" (not quite as colourful in the photos). Driving home we noticed also that the same effect was an equal distance to the left of the sun with the colours in opposite arrangement so obviously they appeared to be the "ends" of an arc type effect although the rest of the arc was never visible. It was a brilliant, sunny very dry day so this rainbow effect was not caused by any rain in the sky and the presence of fresh trails in the immediate vicinity added to suspicions about what may have caused them to be there...
I'm afraid this last photo turned out really crap but if you look right in the centre you can just make out one of the short trails laid out west in the usual position we see them - in this case heading upwards from left to right. By this time it is glowing orange in the last light from the sun. This was taken from the top of Mt Albert looking west...
