Here we are the 10th Jan 2010, what seems like plenty of activity going on and I guess everyone's still on holiday? (queue scene of tumbleweeds and whistling wind sound effects!) :D
Sorry these following photos are not the best quality. Was heading back from Whangamata last evening and had only room for a few photos on my card. Had just come off the pass road into Kopu and saw several fresh trails over towards Hamilton/Waikato District way. By the time we stopped just the other side of the Kopu bridge heading west to take these photos another new one was under way (seen at the right in the following shots). About 5-10 minutes after we drove off yet another new one was started to the right of all these but all we could do was watch it forming as we drove (out of space on the card and in a hurry to get home!). As the sun went down they all dissipated slowly and changed colour from white to orange and then to charcoal grey as the last bit of light slowly went away. The last photo shows where all the trails were in the sky with the green line showing where the last new one appeared - clearer by eye, not so clear at this distance with my tiny camera. Quite a site, especially for the driver who has probably never witnessed quite this kind of thing before - especially when I told him there'll probably even be another new one done after the third and it happened as we drove off!!!
Have just posted all similar shots taken "as is" as there's so few rather than select & edit. 2 were taken through the lens of my sunglasses (in case there was any glare) and 2 were not.

Hi Crakka
The trails that are being laid are more out toward the Raglan area. I am based in Hamtown and have been snapping photos of this on a semi-regular basis.
The trails are getting all to regular. Some evenings we get twin trails being laid.
I have seen in the same area contrails and persistant contrails, as I know the difference. Will try and post some of the better shots, but being on dial-up, these things take time I don't have at the moment.

Hi treknut and thanks for the reply. Good to see a post on this topic from you
Yeah, I would've assumed those trails to be just off the coast as they are in Auckland as they followed the same pattern as those done up here - a series of shortish trails rather than ones arcing the sky. As you can appreciate I was heading from the other coast so to me they were a ways off in the "Hamilton general direction". Thanks for the clarification - it confirms that you're getting a very similar operation happening down your way as we are up here.
Would love to see more photos from you on as regular a basis as you can manage as would others here I'm sure! I used to contribute to a well-visited website & manage a couple of forums from a dialup connection a few years back so it's not that much of a hassle if you use a few "tricks of the trade" Main thing with images is to experiment with simple editing until you get the best possible image for the smallest filesize (something I'm a bit lazy with these days even though my broadband is the slowest available atm!).
