Kia ora
21 August – late avo in the Pelorus Valley ... clear sky for the most part –high cirrus patches drifting east with the odd form such as the first two images later in the day ... sylph like characteristics (and I had just finished saying an’ all) – been some time since seeing anything significant such as the first image ... unusual - quite spectacular. No PTs - until late avo when a westbound big plane (Aus) dropped a goody west of me - – not a busy flight path, although when a PT is obvious it usually starts in the same area (can start/stop/start), and is always dense.

Notice the ‘un-trail’ like feature at the segmented end – I wonder what specific condition in that specific space caused that specific reaction ... I’m sure there is a vague hypothesised notion that would explain it all away (dripping with sarcasm).
29 August ... Saturday
I had a feel early in the morning ... first light there were signs of trail remnants - later around 7am I spotted an old PT that had drifted eastward down the valley (image 5). Many PTs – busy flight day. Most PTs observed fragmented – lengths of condensed bands widening and blending as they drift eastward.
I have noticed a lot more PTs being laid on flight paths to the west than in earlier years ... not as many overhead.
I have included a couple of images of cloud forms that I thought unusual. Image 8 shows these ‘no-cloud’ / ‘no-saturation’ zones I see from time to time, and am intrigued by. (#7 & 8 - brightness adjusted)
5. ... see the contrail - same path as the old PT drifting eastward .. PT then a contrail ?? (explainable of course  )
6. brightness adjusted
7.
8.
PS: There have been other days of PTs - these recent posts are not conclusive by any means ... i’m getting conservative with my reporting. |
