I've made my feelings known on here recently about the "direction" of the political (for want of a better word) leaning of bFM lately and the kind of propaganda they're now pumping out full-on to the so-called "alternative" masses. I won't go on about that save sounding like an old fool I'm sure they'd have you believe I was 8) but you need to be aware about how this is being done seemingly without any balance from proper alternative points of view. Quite often it's about Global "Warming" but also the Green Movement and its growing status - pretty sure most here know how that all fits into the agenda. Generally there's also a very pro-technology vein to many of their articles and while there's mention of possible downsides these never really seem to get portrayed as important enough as reasons for people to just say "no" eg. "it's a necessary evil" or "the positives outweigh the negatives". Anyone criticising most of what they push is increasingly very quickly marginalised - the image portrayed is nearly always of "old", sometimes "extremely conservative" values with the words "conspiracy" and "theorist" bandied around at every opportunity. I've also heard the words "resistant to change" used to reinforce a certain view a few times. Before you get a picture in your mind of where I'm coming from you should know I've been listening to bFM for 30yrs and they have always been my station of choice (mainly for the music) way above any other - basically I have always refused to listen to any other crap commercial station and I always held the view that talk radio (at least in this country!) was the worst possible radio you could listen to! However, this year I'm pretty sure what's starting to show through is how bFM is now being used as a well-established platform to put the same propaganda out there to a different and slightly more savvy (and I'm sure they'd like to also be called more "progressive" and certainly "liberal") audience. It's a real shame to see this happen but to anyone who thinks and can see outside the box, it's obvious...
Anyway, many of their articles are podcast so you can catch up and maybe even start to see what I'm getting at (although you really need to listen over time and see how good alternative views are minimalised or conveniently omitted to strengthen the viewpoints or show them as supposedly "accepted" by the majority).
Here's 2 brief podcasts from the last couple of days that really hit the nail on the head (believe me, there's heaps of other stuff!) -
Just listen to the "real" concerns with biometrics he talks about when prompted! And also when talking about the benefits do most people think about who "really" benefits from all this?
"Green Spiritualism"! There, somebody actually termed it in the media! It's there for all to see, exposed but how many will see it for what it really is?
Oh, and that's just the articles - many ads & stings now contain little references to similar things but again you'd need to listen over time to pick that up. In other words, quite classic, quite smart but very obvious (to some) propaganda 8)
*sigh* the Havoc Mikey and the boys create!
Good spotting Crakka, it's very sad from the perspective of a once great radio.
Evidence for those that can see it.
I don't think this direction things are going in, is going to change any time soon.
So hunker down folks.

Hehe! Yeah makes me almost feel old saying that but indeed it is right on 30yrs. Started listening when I left school and began my apprenticeship! The boss's mother (crotchety old bint!) used to have her radio on every single day blaring out Radio Pacific talkback (guess that's where I quickly developed my aversion!) and to counter it I ended up bringing my own radio in and had it permanently set to Radio Bosom (as it was affectionately known then!). It was all such a great mixture of music you couldn't hear on any other station ranging from grungy 70s rock to Phil Manzanera to the latest punk of the day back then - ahh the memories! And on that note - OMFG!!! THE SPECIALS 30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR!!! I'll be skankin' along to that one f'sure rudeboy (or girl as the case may be!)!!! 8)
