Here's some images of our skies over last two days. Thursday 28 in the Pelorus Valley ... Friday 29 in Blenheim (Wairau River/bridge).
28 May ... much cloud forms for best part of the day ... cleared in avo. I observed two northbound PTs in the morning but did not get photo.
1. 11:08am - facing NW. Cloud form - mass cover.
2. 3:48pm - facing NNW. Northbound PT in process ... cloud mass slowly dissipating.
3. 4:44pm - facing W. Clear cloudless sky .... except for those two lingering PTs. Southbound.
29 May ... Secondfield - how'd you know ? .... We have cold shitty weather predicted for the weekend and the cloud that was around today would support that. Conditions ripe for PTs - not easy to detect as lot of low cloud, but I did see a northbound PT when an opening appeared, (see below).
4. 3:20pm at the Wairau River/bridge - facing NW. A break in clouds to expose the PT ... I saw the sun highlighting colours on some surrounding (or consequential??) cloud forms - same as Crakka is seeing in Auckland area - and same as the camera giving little or no justice to actual colours.
5. ...closer .. I darkened this image a bit to try and define the colours better ...
6. ... a negative of a similar shot ... I use the negative effect often on images - surprising how it can clarify - the oil-slick colours appear more vivid in negative.
7. 4pm - facing NW - (toward home). Virga cloud forms - ?? - colours are visible on the fringes ... a very dark band - usually the intense bright clouds having the colours.
8. I caught sight of this as I was about to leave the river. Appeared like a short beam of burnt apricot coloured light. Not sure what what - an opening in the cloud letting light through ... ?? - what about the other visible openings with no effect. It came and went twice.

That's been a prevalent colour in the Auckland skies this last week. Looking west & NW even from lunchtime on it's looked almost like sunset was coming early. Reminded me of the time we were supposedly seeing pinky skies caused by ash from that Indonesian volcano a few years back. Not a particularly common colouration by my observations.
