Amazingly brilliant corona around the sun just about all day today as the photos below show. This is becoming an almost daily sighting up here in Auckland when you don't have complete overcast -
And last week (think it was Thursday 12 Feb) there was some of the most brilliant oilslick type colours on clouds around the sun I've seen yet. The best stuff was seen while driving as usual but I snapped a couple when I finally got to my destination - not as brilliant but still visible. Again this is a very common sighting now, much more prevalent than I've noticed in the past. Man there certainly must be a lot of "ice crystals" up there ALLTHE TIME ay?!!!

Gisborne Gisdied - we had a hoooooooge one down here to Crakka, it was one of the gruntiest rings around the sun I have seen.
There is of course a fairly complex system bearing down on NZ, I did wonder about the 'ice crystals' yea right - theory as this system is from the tropix.
I can't say it's that uncommon, as a rule we generally get them if there is a large amount of rain gonna hit.
Oils well that ends well :D |

heh thanks, funny you should say that, as I am so surprised how many hits I got on that lame put-together-in-5-mins vid.
So yesterday I was thinking it must be time for part 2 with maybe a proper camera not a dinosaur stills cam  |
