Old and new persistent trails seen today. Long, wide bands of eastward drifting trails - trying to look 'normal'.
Long trail and seconds later no trial. Most of what viewed later in day was drifting in from the west. It would be great if someone in Nelson area could report on sky activity.
Later in day - 6-6:30pm - caught sight of what I first thought was a coloured cloud, but this was different - not the usual range of colours and it had this intense 'spot' of light that shot a beam out N and S (images below). It reminded me of when you use a magnifying glass to burn - that intense speck of light. A refraction of sorts ... ?? The colour/light was not part of a cloud - not that I could make out. There was no changing of shape, nor drifting ... the colour and light got dimmer.
Secondfield .... there's that same area again ....

Interesting! Yes those things don't hang around too long most of the time. In another post I said you need to be in the right place at the right time! You were today f'sure - I wasn't able to be unfortunately :wink:
