Greetings ...
Here is a collection of what we saw here in the Pelorus Valley today. Very little description - a bit of a mission to get all these prepared and linked - the images tell the story.
I'm happy to answer questions or clarify info ...
1) 11:37am
2) 12:04pm - W
3) 12:04pm - NE
4) 12:09pm - N
5) 1:33pm - W
6) 2:11pm - W (brightness adjusted)
7) 2::27pm - W ... included this one to show how the twisted persistent trail remnant in centre develops spectacularly ... scroll on ...
8. 2:32pm - W
9) 2:48pm W
10) 2:58pm - W the trail remnant referred to earlier - 30 mins later ... (more of this form below)
11) 2:27 -- 3:05pm ... a time lapse series - of course the colours were even more vivid with my eye - the camera did quite a good job though ... ( I took quite a few photos of this form - trying out settings etc)
12) 3:29 - NW ... VERY unusual to see trails W-E / E-W ... this one was the second one that drifted eastward down the valley.
13) 3:32 - NW ... a close up of above trail
14) 3:52pm - facing north from Canvastown

| Excellent collection as always! We had a particularly "weird" cloud day today in Auckland although I hear the same was seen over much of the north island - no trails sighted in my area though. |

Hi Ruapaka ..
We had much the same day up here on the kapiti coast, starting from very early in the morning. Watched two trails form on my way home from work which 'morphed' after 15 minutes into almost exactly the same cloud structure shown in your last two pic's.
Ive also been noting quite a few trails that 'corkscrew' after a short period of time.
Keep an eye on the sky directly on sunset (above the sun), made an interesting observation last night from the beach looking directly west from Raumati (right out over your valley virtually, across the straight).
Today its pretty active upstairs also ... |

Hey there Secondfield ... Sunset you say ... interesting ob you say .... :)
When I first saw the twisted remnant, that was the beginning of pic #10, I was intrigued by a piece of cirrus? cloud that formed (intensely) to the lower left ... as the images show - changing shape and colours ... I think something was at work - what?, I don't know. I thought of you and your interest in sylphs.
I have observed 1 persistent trail today (Tues 13th) ... got bad weather over to the west - ton of electrical charge ahead of the front ... cloud building up, moderate wind - not many opportunities to observe. |
