After a couple of almost clear days with no anomalous cloud to speak of today we woke up to that same ol' wishy washy cirrus stuff that's soooo prevalent these days. Tons of weird & wonderful shapes, lines & streaks up there and a massive corona around the sun even visible with the naked eye if you can stand to look in the vacinity briefly. Way too much stuff to just wait for and photograph due to being busy with stuff but be sure to keep an eye up there today, at least in Auckland although probably elsewhere as well, for those rainbow colours, etc! Pretty sure there'll be opportunities today although you have to be in the right place at the right time.
Here's a few quick snaps taken this morning from a couple of locations I visited...
(tried to keep them mostly around 150kb each so sorry if they load a little slow on snail-paced connections!)
Hmmm' theres something intriuging about that last picture crakka.... just looking at the cirrius stritations (I think thats what their called ;-o).. a 'modulated' cloud?
When you peer at the sky in that state its difficult to get a proper visual perspective.. it looks inside out and upside down. Depth of perception is drastically reduced. Guaging densities and estimating distances is impossible. 6th july 2006 here in Wellington was an insanely heavy day. We haven't had that happen for awhile ... you might get the idea with this clip..
The trails in this one weren't even the subject of the video... but watch it in its entirety and you will see how a heavy day down here in wellington 'shapes up'.
Grid's, constant flyovers, rainbow distortions .. filmed this time last year..

One of my alltime faves f'sure  "...And The Circus Leaves Town" and "Welcome To Sky Valley" have been on high rotation this summer!
Great little video  Lots of stuff towards the end (sylphs) that looks similar to what we're seeing all over lately more and more. I've said it before but it's almost on a daily basis we're seeing all that same "cirrus" stuff up there and then it seems like we get a day or two off before it's back.
Here's a few more shots from Monday. Unfortunately wasn't outside fulltime so wasn't necessarily in the "right place at the right time" and I'm sure someone could've got better shots than these today (y'day now!)...
