Working around West Auckland today, just finished a job, drove around the corner and straight ahead of me was a nice, long freshly laid persistent trail. Annoyingly I must have just missed the aircraft laying it - where I was working was behind a building directly in line of sight. It was in exactly the same area of sky as those photographed on 20 Oct 2008 but this time it was just a single trail and no others were laid in the same area. Photos taken approx 4.45pm. Again, sorry for the poor quality result from my little old camera - I'm sure a decent camera would have made this way more visible. I tinkered around with Irfanview editing a little to make it more visible but I'm totally a novice...
Then around 8.00pmish tonight I was watching a large plane approaching from the west in a pleasant (but usually "odd cirrus" littered) sunset sky. It was one of those ones that just loooks like it's almost travelling too slow to keep itself up there. Anyhow just as it passed through some of that messy cirrus stuff with the sunset backlighting it, a really weird thing happened. It suddenly had a bright pinky red glow around it exending about 2-3 bodywidths all around it just for the time it passed through the cirrus stuff! Well it kinda freaked me out and I ran for the camera but obviously had no time to take a shot. Has anyone witnessed this before? So wished I'd have had my camera in my hand for that phenomenon! All I could think was that that "cirrus" stuff that we're seeing as "different" all the time must be charged or made up of something metallic for that to happen, especially after witnessing that light effect yesterday! Things are definitely going on up there folks that I've not seen before and I'd like to know why! Anyway, all I can offer is a photo of the area of sky where I saw it happen taken a few minutes later -

Again, came on here tonight hoping maybe John & Melody had already posted their own professional quality snaps or someone else might have seen this but yet again looks like I'm the lone ranger of the west as usual 8)
