Mucho interesting stuff to look at today although as I'm zipping in and out of doors all day so far probably missing most of it! We're regularly getting the same stuff ruapaka's experiencing down south now. Lately there's been heaps of what I'm going to bravely call (for this time of year) "christmas tree" formations lol! Here's a few rushed snaps taken about 1.00pm. Note those "tree" ones just to the right of the middle in the pan shot and clearly in shot 4. Sorry they're not super clear - my camera never does them justice... Maybe more later... and hopefully someone else has some?

| Just to add, now that I'm looking back at those shots those "christmas tree" type ones remind me of static electricity like when your hair all stands on end! Maybe there's something in that... |

| You very seriously need to learn how to resize your photos. |

Those very seriously ARE resized! The originals are 2272x1704 at 314dpi. I started out resizing them at 800x600 which was the old standard for 15" monitors. The latest ones though are 1024x768 which is standard for 17" monitors. Nowadays most people have 17' and above - I went to 19" over a year ago and I was really slow going to that size! If these photos are too big for your display then it's not the resizing that needs to change, it's your obsolete technology lol!
If you mean though how the quality is affected with the resizing then yes, I could spend more time tweaking them. Currently my camera is only 4mp so quality is not great to start with. Also I mainly use Irfanview to crop & resize as it's just so much quicker & easier to use than Photoshop. I use another great little tool to create pan shots that again I much prefer to Photoshop. |

| Oh and I'm aware the filesize is possibly still a little larger than necessary as although I scaled things down the dpi remained the same to try and retain quality. Scaling dpi down a bit doesn't seem to change things drastically to the naked eye in my experience though I'll admit. Next time I'll do this to help with load times  Again, even on the slower broadband this doesn't seem to be a problem though. |

Thanks for the pics Crakka. Good to see what others are seeing. Yes, very similar sky-scapes to around the Marlborough region.
Those angular lines in the 2nd image - what's that about! I dunno about that .... these type of phenomena are a new observation for me (about a year) - they just seem 'un-natural' ... and they probably are.
Regarding your file sizes - I bear the time lag - gotta go with smash(to-the-point)dracs here ... jeez I'm on dial-up  Keep up the great stuff. |

Firstly guys, just for you I've kept these at 1024x768 but lowered the DPI to 100 and saved at 90% quality in Irfanview instead of 100%. The filesize is now almost down to a quarter of what it would have been at the quality used before with almost no discernible visual quality loss. Hope you enjoy slightly faster loading speeds

Wait till ya see these ones then! First photo isn't as clear as I'd have liked but it's basically a whole mass of "hair-standing-on-end" type clouds coming out from behind the normal fluffy types lol! Well that's the analogy I used earlier before I then went out and saw this first one about 6.00pm. It was quite impressive by eye and really stood out as something quite different - like it all radiates from a central point and shoots out a mass of "spikes" -
This second one taken about 7.15pm is weird. It has that angular form you're talking about ruapaka but look at the wierd light effect on it! Crazy sh*t this arvo all over the place! The whole day we've had masses of linear clouds and all kinds of shapeshifting angular stuff -

| On a look back I see that you probably mean those angular lines are in the so-called "non-cloud" area to the top righthand side of the second photo. I see that kind of thing all the time. That and the kind of railway line effect where you get a large linear cloud with a that kind of fading "non cloud" area running all the way down the middle making it almost look like 2 lines of cloud running parallel to each other. |
