I put together the below image to show, what I think is, unusually fast forming cloud.
I took a lot of photos that day and couldn't believe seeing the cloud in the second image ... I had turned to take a shot in a north direction. When I turned back, there was a cloud forming. The top cloud evaporated quickly, while the other continued growing to the size in the 3rd photo and hung around for sometime, slowly drifting eastward.

Interesting.
The skies over Auckland have also had some very interesting "cirrus" formations in them on a daily basis now for ages. I started taking photos a couple of weeks ago but honestly there's just way too many weird & wonderful forms to post! I've actually even deleted stuff as I go so as not to fill up the hard drive. Decided from now on just to keep the most interesting or anomalous stuff. A neighbour's kid said something interesting to me the other day - she reckoned she's been seeing "words trying to form in the clouds" lately hehe! I gotta say, some of the ones I've taken photos of lately certainly "could" be viewed that way given their long stringy forms with lots of intersecting lines and circular & square parts but I'm certainly not subscribing to that (until I see concrete evidence!) :-)
A thought that did come to mind for the stop-start effect photo'd twice recently was maybe fuel dumping but then why would a plane heading west and still over land or very close to land do this? Also I don't know anything about how expelled excess fuel forms in the atmosphere so that explanation doesn't do it for me.
Yesterday saw a few quite strange forms with one in particular that was long & stringy and stood out as odd from everything around it. Unfortunately the camera battery was on the charger so no photo (so skeptics can stop here if you wish). After jumping in the car & driving a few streets away I viewed it again and it clearly had some funny coloured light thing going on with it. Moving from top to bottom it went through different colour spectrums from darker orangey-grey through bluey-green to white - like the rainbow effect but much more pail and less distinct. This was about midday so no sunrise/sunset hues and no other clouds around it appeared to exhibit the same properties. How does this happen? Things like ice crystals or even metallic particles come to mind but who knows - I guess that's why it's so interesting to keep looking up and reading & discussing more about the cloud & sky/light phenomena we see above?! :)
