Kia ora
Yesterday. (Friday, 31 Oct), I took a couple of photos late in the day. I observed what I thought was a persistent trail being laid N to S, by the time I got camera and a pozzie the trail had segmented and was dissipating very quickly. A study of the images late last night to find any trail remnants .... found a something I first thought 'bird' ... but the object is the the same piece of sky 8 secs later - what are the chances? I think it is something else.
I have not cropped - only resized. No fleck on camera lens - different point on images and not on other images taken that time. Could be a bird (s) - but what are the chances??
(1) Taken 1926:26 hrs - looking west toward Canvastown ... shows the trail (arrowed) and an object (circled and enlarged inset) ...
(2) Taken 1926:34 hrs ... trail dissipated, an object in same area (circled and enlarged inset)
Hard to tell, worth reporting though, the fact that you have a 'hunch' that it might be something is good enough. I took a couple of shots during mid october, when everyone else was reporting unusual activity as well, and in one of the shots is some sort of anomaly, could be anything i guess, I will try and get it uploaded sometime this week.
I have thought the object could possibly be a harrier hawk - many here. They like circling in up-drafts ... and there was wind coming on the day. ??? Birds are easy to spot in the sky - even when long way off or high up - they stand out - movement .... so, I'm sure would have noticed the bird during the time I was taking the photos .... and I didn't .... ?? If it is a bird, then it is a very long way off.
Get your image on for some feedback Deano. It's a bit like looking under stones. :)
