I saw a weather situation map this morning that suggested we were to have mainly clear skies in Auckland today along with a weather forecast on Breakfast that said the same. However, we ended up with a pretty solid cloud cover for most of the day which was quite a surprise to be honest. Here's the situation map from earlier this evening that looks pretty much the same as the one I saw this morning -



Anyway, later in the afternoon from about 4.30pm on a few holes appeared in the clouds revealing some blueness up there behind it all but what was prevalent again was masses of the same stuff up there behind all the clouds we've been seeing for the last 2 or 3 weeks. Again some of it looked a bit like spread out trails with the usual roughly SSW-to-NNE aspect but as the holes opened up and closed over again a lot of different-looking stuff revealed itself for short periods of time. Definitely worth a look I thought although my little camera and reduced size photos probably don't really do them justice...





















Actually ran out of battery just after this last one was taken. The rising line you can see between the posts was one of two seen here with the other currently obscured by the grey clouds. The obscured one briefly became apparent as the clouds moved over the next few minutes. They were in the same approximate position and on the same angle as the series of trails photographed on 20 Oct 2008 in West Auckland (see Reporting forum).
