Here ae some images I took on Sunday ... frontal system moving fast up and over NZ. Cold, messy cirrus formations preceding the front - common to see persistent trails in this environment. I also observed a contrail around 1:30pm.
There are no NOAA satellite images for 21 Sept.
Lower Pelorus Valley - 9:23am - facing west. Persistent trail laid by craft heading south.
Lower Pelorus Valley - 10:53am - facing NNE. Persistent trail laid by northbound craft.
Lower Pelorus Valley - 11:14am - facing NE. Front on the move. (According to my map reading skills, the ridge in this pic is where the Southern Alps end. Also you can just make out the transmitter on the ridge - bottom, left of center.)
