I'm actually really surprised nobody has mentioned this! Was anybody in Auckland looking up yesterday (it's after 2am otherwise I would have said today!)? I've only just got online now and was expecting to see at a thread started on this but - nothing!

Ok, so about 2.15pm Saturday 7 Sept 2008, just parked the car, we jump out and someone says " hey look at that up there!". And there it was, plain as anything - a dirty great lingering trail that arced from north to south right across the centre of Auckland! It did the usual thing - stayed persistent in the sky and just spread out wider and wider along its whole length. There was no fading at all along it's entire length and it sure was a long one like I said, a big long arc from north to south just about as far as you see each way. And it was directly overhead cutting straight across the centre of downtown Auckland City. As I looked either side it was also apparent that at least another 2 more "may" have been done just earlier as well - just visible long straight rows of spread out "cloud" running pretty much parallel. However I only observed the one actually in the process of being laid so that's the proof this time.

Now the only thing I had on me was my trusty mobile with its fantastic 1mp camera BUT amazingly the two shots following are clear enough to see what I'm talking about. I took 3 shots and a short video but the third shot and the vid just looked like masses of cloud with sunlight messing them up and with less clarity than the first two shots so weren't good enough to reproduce. Damn trusty mobile with its 3gp low quality video! Again, really surprised nobody else saw this or mentioned it!

Anyway as you can see, despite a brilliant blue sky with a few wispies in the morning it was pretty much like it was in the photos for the rest of the day.

And I just have to add - this was the most convincing evidence I've ever personally witnessed cos this thing was so clearly NOT a contrail. To see it it in person it was just a big, thick, solid ejection of something that was so clear and brilliant you simply couldn't miss it! The length of the thing was amazing too like it was switched on over the north shore and carried on right across the centre of Auckland City and headed south to cover the most densely populated area. We saw one other plane much later out west - that had absolutely NO trail of any kind. What more can I say. The photos really don't do it justice!

Here's a photo of it. The inset is a crop from the full size image, taken with a very very long lens. We saw this contrail being formed, plus one or two more at later times. Didn't concentrate especially on it , while it is still a reasonably unusual sight in Auckland, it didn't seem, to us, to exhibit anything out of the range of a 'normal' contrail...

Based upon our position and looking at the flight vector map, it looked as though it was likely to be on the Fiji route, carrying on through to Wellington. A second one slightly more to the west looked to be on the Taipei to Auckland route, petering out over the west coast, where you would expect it to begin its descent into Auckland.

In our opinion, there didn't appear to be anything abnormal about the flight paths or the behaviour of the trails themselves.

Ahhh good to have those flight vector maps to check against, thanks Melody although the sky looks markedly different in your very clear shots to what we saw in our photos! :wink: Obviously you've checked the times given above and also the trajectory - we were looking from Auckland City towards North Shore and to the right of the Harbour Bridge in direction (in the first crappy phone photo). And yes the plane stayed up pretty high right across so definitely bypassed Auckland in this pass. I guess also in hindsight I probably wouldn't normally have put the word "chemtrail" in my subject heading but it was past 2am, I was tired and just wanted to get the post up for discussion :)

We watched this one from when it was already about 2/3 of the way through its arc until it almost completely spread out over the period of about 30 minutes. To me the way it stayed up there and spread out to merge with other cloud looked to be the typical pattern seen in most claimed videos seen is all. Anyway, your pics are good and clear so thanks for the follow-up. If ever one was to sound a little more suspicious though you could almost guess that maybe they're using some of the official flight paths now to throw off current speculation or provide a solid counter-explanantion given the rise in sightings?! Just a thought that one could easily summise :wink:

A similar thing happened over Hamilton on Tuesday evening. Usually see them to the west (busy flight path) but first time I've seen one this close to the city - been here 6 years.
(It was my 4yo that alerted me to it. She came running inside and yelled "Daddy daddy get the camera! They're putting lines in the sky..... Quick". So cool.)

Two medium level chemtrail operations in my area recently also, multiple trails spreading across a wide area. First activity of this level in some time.
