Titirangi’s longrange forecaster Ken Ring has launched Lopdell House Gallery’s free public lecture series by declaring that manmade climate change is “complete nonsense”.
Speaking to a packed gallery at the inaugural talk to celebrate World Meterological Day, Ken entitled his provocative alternative viewpoint “The Climate Change Swindle”. We are being lied to by the science community, the politicians and the media, he said, and planet earth is cooling, not warming.
“Global warming alarmists know cooling is coming but they have been hoping to secure restrictions on economic activity first. Every climate scientist in the world has known, beyond any doubt for several years now, that late 20th century warming was driven by the high levels of solar activity between 1940 and 2000. They also know the corollary: that when solar activity drops into a down phase the earth will get cold, possibly even precipitating the next ice age.”
Solar activity had been low for several years and global cooling was already being detected. At the same time, the current lull between 11-year solar cycles was unusually quiet and long, reminiscent of earlier downturns in solar activity that led to dramatic global cooling. It seemed certain that we are in for at least a substantial dip in global temperature. At the same time, we are in the middle of a major La Nina event where cold Pacific waters rise to the surface.
“Warming hysteria is religion, not science,” Ken continued. “If global cooling is known to be the real and impending danger, why is it that even with the onset of cooling, most climatologists are raising hysterical alarms about global warming?
“The possible answer is because they are not actually concerned about global temperature at all. They are environmental religionists who believe that human economic growth is gobbling up the natural world. Blaming late 20th century warming on fossil fuel burning is just an opportunity for these religionists to try to impose restrictions on economic activity and, in that way, ‘save the planet’ from human encroachment.”
Global warming alarmism never did have anything to do with climatology. Rather than there being a case for CO2 driven warming, the evidence was for just the opposite. As CO2 levels had risen in the last decade, temperatures had actually dropped, falsifying any casual connection between CO2 and temperatures.
“While the geologic record provides clear proof of the effects of solar activity and radiation from space on global temperature, there is absolutely no evidence anywhere in the geologic record for CO2 ever having any significant effect on temperature.
“In the 1970s we laughed at people who went around carrying signs that declared ‘the end of the world is nigh’. Now, in the early 21st century, unless you go around with the exact same message you are labelled a climate change denier.”
His idea about the use of a Climate Change threat to impose restriction on economic activity is an interesting one and one that makes sense, particularly as China continues with unstoppable forward momentum as a dominant economic force.
The Greens certainly seem to be milking it for everything it's worth, as it finally gives their anti big business position and their views about punishing polluters and users of private transport etc etc, mainstream justification.
